When Sissy and I wandered our new neighborhood, the kids would scatter at our approach, huddle more tightly over their games, climb into their treehouses and spy at us through paper towel tubes. Once I got hit with a rain of pinecones and Sissy raged around in a circle, trying to catch out the source of the laughter that rang from every hiding place.
